Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Spring Conference for 7th and 8th grade students.
Event Mission/Objective
Highline College Women’s Programs and AAUW offers STEM for middle school students from underrepresented backgrounds in our community. We engage students in meaningful activities to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math careers, while providing links to educational pathways where students can achieve their goals. With generous support and engagement from our community, we are proud to offer an inclusive and educational online event.
Event Outcomes:

Student participants will be aware of at least four different STEM-related professions that they could pursue, and how science and research relate to these different careers

Participating students will be familiar with STEM degrees and programs offered at Highline College, as well as the campus location, accessibility, and opportunities for Running Start and college-level courses

Student participants will have engaged in online learning opportunities and presentations where they explore STEM careers and applications of science in the workplace

Student participants from underrepresented backgrounds will meet diverse professionals who are leaders in STEM fields, helping to show that a career in STEM is attainable for everyone

Students and school staff will leave with contact information for professional staff, faculty, and community members who are engaged in STEM work, with the opportunity to further connect for educational purposes

Teachers and school counselors who attend will be familiar with Highline College offerings and opportunities for education and community connection

Event presenters will understand Highline College’s commitment to equity and access, and will be familiar with opportunities for education and community connection that Highline provides

Highline College faculty, staff, and students will fulfill campus commitments to engage with the larger community, living out our core themes and stated mission
